Vallejo, Calif. - The William Jessup University men's soccer team opened up California Pacific Conference action at California Maritime Academy on Tuesday night. Despite controlling most of the game, the Warriors fell to the Keelhaulers 3-0.
The Keelhaulers were able to take advantage of the Warriors defensive miscues in the first half. CMA's Marshall Fice would score the first of his two goals in the 8th minute of the game. Fice capitalized on an error in the Warriors backfield to put the Keelhaulers up early in the contest. The Warriors defense would hold tight until the 34th minute. Fice would strike again as he centered the ball to Chris Barker, who headed the ball past Warriors keeper Tim Rusher. The half ended with a score of 2-0.
The Warriors came into the second half playing strong as they tried to fight back in the game. Uriel Moreno and Mitch Chilcott put shots on the frame but nothing could get past the Keelhaulers keeper. Fice would score his second goal of the game in the 74th minute. The Warriors had a golden opportunity to get on the board with a penalty kick, but once again they were denied by the keelhaulers.
The Warriors outshot the Keelhaulers 20-11.
The Warriors fell to 2-4 on the season, while the Keelhaulers improved to 1-0.
