REDDING, Calif. - A day after the worst loss in school history to Sacramento State, the William Jessup University men's soccer team bounced back to a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over George Fox University at Simpson University's soccer field.
The teams battled to a scoreless first half. The Bruins would break the scoreless game in the 70th minute as Luke Hammer found the back of the net on an assist by Sawyer Meek.
The Warriors would answer eight minutes later, as sophomore Uriel Moreno scored at the 71:02 mark in the second half. The score remained 1-1 into overtime, when junior Mitch Chilcott hit the game-winner on an assist from junior James Phillips. .
The Bruins could not take advantage of out-shooting the Warriors 24-4. George fox also held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-3. Warrior's keeper Tim Rusher recorded five saves.
Jessup improves to 2-3 on the season.
The Warriors next game will be against Holy Names University in the CALPAC opener on September 24th in Oakland. Game time is set for 1:00.
